at CHITIMBA CAMP

We have various activities on offer

 

Our guests are welcome to explore the local area. For the more adventurous, explore trails in the natural surroundings of the famous Livingstone mountains and enjoy the spectaculair  views on Lake Malawi while hiking to Livingstonia, the Manchewe falls or Chombe Mountain.

You can also enjoy other activities such as  the village walk, woodcarving lessons or visiting the witchdoctor.

There is a beach volleyball court in front of the bar or play beach soccer with the local people.

Feel free to walk along the beach past the fishing villages and do some bird watching along the way.

Activities

CHITIMBA VILLAGE WALK

This cultural walk is an easy walk and will take you about 3 hours through the village of Chitimba.

WITCHDOCTOR VISIT

This tour is an easy walk and will take you to the witchdoctor in about 1 our 2 hours.

CHITIMBA VILLAGE WALK AND WITCH DOCTOR VISIT

This cultural walk is an easy walk and will take you about

3-4 hours through the village of Chitimba. 

You will also visit the witchdoctor.

​

CHIHANGA WALK

Let the guide take you through the beautiful and serene surroundings all the way up to the First Free Primary school of Chihanga. This walk is a normal hike in a hilly environment which at some parts can be slippery during the wet season and will take about 3,5 to 4 hours.

LIVIINGSTONIA DAY HIKE

You go for a wonderful trip up the mountains. Enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Malawi and Nyika Mountains. If you are up to it the guide will lead your through many short cuts which have been

used for ages by the local people. The trip by normal track 16 km one way, if you use the short cuts it will be several km less. It will be a steep and tough walk which takes between 8 and 12 hours.

MANCHEWE FALLS DAY HIKE

You go for a wonderful trip up the mountains. Enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Malawi. If you are up to it the guide will lead your through many short cuts which have been used for ages by the local people. 

The trip by normal track 11 km one way, if you use the short cuts it will be several km less. It will be a steep and tough walk which takes between 6 and 10 hours.

MOUNT CHOMBE DAY HIKE

An elevation standing mountain, high above the surrounding area with small summit area, steep slopes and local relief of 300 meter or more. Our guide will take you all the way up to this wonderful mountain. If you want fantastic views, this is the one!

It will be a steep and long walk which takes between 12 and

 13 hours.

One way is about 21 km but using the short cuts it will be several km less.

LIVINGSTONIA DAY DRIVE - HALF WAY DRIVE/WALK

What to do:

​

✓   Mantchewe waterfalls:

Before you get to the top of the mountain you will visit the Mantchewe waterfalls and a natural swimming pool. You can have a nice cool-down in the natural  pool.

✓   Livingstonia Mission:

You will visit Stone-house and the museum where you can learn about the history of the early Scottish missionaries who once settled in Livingstonia (Dr. David Livingstone). After that you will have a chance to visit Livingstonia Church. You will have spectacular views of the area from the top of the church. In Livingstonia is also a small coffee shop where you can buy drinks and food.

The day drive:

​

The vehicle will pick you up from the camp and drive you up to Livingstonia to do the tour with a guider. After the tour the car will bring you back to the camp.

 

The half way drive/hike:

​

The vehicle will pick you up from the camp and drive you up to Livingstonia. A guider will walk with you through the mountains with beautiful views of the lake back to the camp.

You can also do it the other way around.  The guider escorts you up the mountain where the car will be waiting to bring you back to the camp.

 

What to wear:

​

Please wear good strong shoes or hiking boots.

Also wear something on your head and don’t forget sun cream as it can get very hot.

Rain clothes only in the rainy season.

 

Types of the vehicle:

​

4X4 pickup which can take about 10 people.

We do also use other types of cars depending on the number of people or according the weather of that day.

 

Prices:

​

✓   100 US dollars per vehicle both ways (including guiding fee, excluding entrance fees).

✓   100 US dollars for the half way trip (including guiding fee, excluding entrance fees).

 

Entrance fees:

​

✓   Mantchewe falls: 2 US dollars per person

✓   Museum: 2 US dollars per person

✓   Livingstonia Church: Donation
